Map Themes

Map Themes are an important reporting tool for geospatial analysis.  In InfoMaster, map themes may be easily applied and saved within the InfoMaster project.

Map Themes may be created in a variety of ways, but no matter how they are created, they are saved in the Operation Center window in the Toolbox tab.

Like many InfoMaster objects, each saved map theme requires a unique ID and may also contain a description.  Editing a map theme opens up the thematic mapping window, while running applies it to the map.

The thematic mapping window is shown below.  Here is where users specify their map theme parameters.

On the left side, users must select the facility type and data source to be used to generate the map theme.  Each facility type in the dropdown list may have different applicable tables for creating the map theme.  In the example above, this map theme is for Pressurized Mains and based off the Risk Report within Risk1, Symmetrical Risk.

After specifying the data source, the right side of the window is used to specify the field and appearance of the map theme.  After the field is specified at the top, users may:

• • Classify based on a range of values or different themes for each unique value.
  • Specify the number of classes and how they should be divided if classifying by range.
  • Adjust the color ramp and symbol size
    • Note that clicking the Symbol, Size, and Value fields in the preview table will also allow users to manually change colors, size, and value breaks.
  • Add and adjust lables
  • Edit transparency

Most of these options are already be available and easily accessible for those familiar with ArcMap, however, this interface makes it easy to quickly adjust themes, and the ability for InfoMaster to save map themes within the Operation Center is convenient.

Map themes may be created and saved from the Map Themes dropdown in the Toolbox tab, but they may also be accessed and created from a variety of other places in the Operation Center.  Survey Imports, COFs, LOFs, Risk analyses, deterioration models, and rehabilitation plans all have direct access to map themes.
